Nay's Fundraise!

I first took on the Sudsy Challenge at SRC in 2019... just look at where that journey has taken me!

I feel so privileged to connect with Aussies doing it tough while hopping between Orange Sky shifts. One experience that hit hard for me was a shift at Musgrave Park, West End, that I attended earlier this year.

Too proud to tell her interstate sons of her position after escaping a DV relationship, G had been sleeping in one of the tents in the park for more than 3 weeks; she was scared, cold and unsure what the week ahead held for her. Since coming to Orange Sky shifts, she had found a small community in the volunteers and other friends on shift, including a young mother, S. S was a Doctor in an unstable part of the Middle-East, and her husband a Lawyer - neither spoke English when they fled to Australia last year to protect their two daughters, and their futures. Heading home that night, S hugged G, wished her safety for the night, and took a bundle of crackers home in a napkin to give to her daughters. I left in tears.

Both women were lovely to connect with, genuine friends to each other, and so incredibly strong. I wished I could've done more to help. I am so proud of what Orange Sky AU and NZ are able to achieve with the support of everyday Aussies who care and give what they can, and I feel so fortunate to see how we are growing and evolving to help people experiencing all kinds of homelessness.
