What do I experience as an Orange Sky volunteer?
The warm smiles of gratitude from our friends who use our services, are unbelievable. Often when there is no reason to smile, it's a folded pile of warm clean clothes that extracts those hidden smiles. During our engaging conversations, it is so obvious, that as a service, we do go deeper than clean clothes. Be it a sounding board, a supportive shoulder, or a dig about the footy referee, we're there.Why Orange Sky?
Funds donated today are utilised the next day, for example, fueling one of the vans ensuring it arrives at its next shift location. Reliability is paramount for friends who use the service. Not only does their laundry need washing, but that connection through conversations with volunteers is so valuable.I'm keeping my kit on for The Sudsy Challenge!
I'm not changing my clothes for three days to help the daily lives of people experiencing hardship and homelessness.
This September, I'll be taking on The Sudsy Challenge to raise funds and awareness for Orange Sky - an organisation providing access to free laundry, warm showers and genuine conversation.
